Gerald Jensen
October 30, 1927 - July 8, 2010

Gerald Ross, son of Thorvald George (T. G.) and Kirstine (Simonsen) Jensen, was born October 30, 1927 in Kimballton, IA. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton. Gerald attended public school in Kimballton and graduated from Audubon High School. During World War II he served in the United States Navy. After an extensive time of hospitalization following his service he was employed by Jensen Construction Company in Des Moines, retiring in 1995 after 37 faithful years of employment in the bridge construction industry.

In his spare time Gerald enjoyed dancing, especially with Nancy Irons his companion of many years. Nancy was a loving friend of his and his whole family. She and her sons provided a nurturing home for him for 22 years in Pleasant Hill. Nancy died in 2008.

Gerald became a resident of Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn in 2008 and participated in various activities there thanks to his niece Lynette Wall and the excellent Salem staff. After moving back to Elk Horn, he renewed his membership in Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he attended worship services regularly. He happily celebrated 32 years of sobriety and his family was extremely proud of his accomplishment.

After a short illness, Gerald died on Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 8 days.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Erling (Rose) Jensen, Evald (Elna) Jensen and Bernhardt (Margie) Jensen; and four sisters: Amanda (Niels) Boelth, Olivia (Harold) Hoegh, Selma (Vernon) Larsen and Virginia Nielsen.

Gerald is survived by Nancy’s sons Don Irons and Dan Irons and grandson Jordan Agey; brother-in-law Pastor W. Clayton Nielsen of Elk Horn; nieces and nephews: Sandra (James) Rasmussen, Elizabeth (Irvin) Ibsen, Mary (Bill) Oswald, Paulette (Bob) Bliss, Richard (Sonja) Larsen, Mark (Kathy) Larsen, Paul (Kris) Larsen, Sonia (Dick) Vogel, Margaret (Dan) Cooper, Lynette (Tom) Wall; Kathleen Hoegh, Bruce (Sue) Hoegh, Winston (Donna) Hoegh, Warren (Erin) Nielsen, Lance (Wendy) Nielsen, and Melanie (Terry) Phoenix; many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
