Irene Boose
March 28, 1924 - October 12, 2009

Irene Viola, daughter of Anton K. and Martha (Hendricksen) Peitersen was born March 28, 1924 west of Elk Horn, Iowa. She attended country school at Clay #3 until 1934 when the family moved to Elk Horn. Irene then attended school in Elk Horn, graduating in 1941.

On November 14, 1942 Irene was united in marriage with Melvin Conray Boose at Elk Horn Lutheran Church. Four children were born into this union. From 1943 to 1946, Melvin served in the United States Army and Irene followed him to his posts of duty whenever possible. She lived at home with her mother the remaining time during the war years. Upon his honorable discharge, Irene and Melvin made their home in Elk Horn where she worked as a volunteer at Salem Lutheran Home.

As a lifetime member of Elk Horn Lutheran Church, Irene taught Sunday School and was a member of the Women’s Circle. She was a charter member of the Local Danish Brotherhood, a member of the Outlook Study Club and Willing Workers Club. Irene was always proud of her Danish Heritage and was proud to be a member of the Elk Horn Community.

Melvin died in 1996 and Irene was able to remain at her home in Elk Horn until December of 2001 when she became a resident of Salem Lutheran Homes. In November of 2006 she moved to Colonial Manor in Anita where she died on October 12, 2009 at the age of 85 years, 6 months and 14 days.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: Louritz, Lawrence and Hans Peitersen and sisters Anna Yates and Agnes Potts.

She is survived by her children: Steve Boose and wife Ky of Austin, TX; Enid Nielsen of Des Moines; Ingrid May of Denver, CO; and Marty Boose and wife Connie of Atlantic; ten grandchildren: Lee Boose, Michael Boose, Jeff Nielsen, Marci Bertini, Erika Nielsen, Rene Harbin, Michelle Swanson, Anton Boose, Scott Boose and Max Boose; many great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
