Died: Aug. 26, 2011, at Elm Crest Retirement Center in Harlan, IA

Funeral services: Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011; United Methodist Church in Persia, IA; Pastor Orris Drake officiated. Burial was at the Valley View Cemetery in Persia, IA.

Survived by: sons, John J. Wilson of Mesa, AZ, and Jerry L. Wilson (spouse, Jill) of Yankton, SD; daughter, Jan Wilson of Persia, IA; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren

Predeceased by: Husband, Joseph L. Wilson; children, James W. Wilson of Persia, IA, Jane Ann Wilson Brown and Jean Wilson McGuire, both of Council Bluffs, IA; daughters-in-law, Betty Points Wilson (spouse, John), of Detroit, MI, and Ardis Koeppen Wilson (spouse, James) of Mapleton, IA. Herma was the last surviving member of her first family; she was predeceased by her parents, James William and Lottie (nee Brown) Kemmish; siblings, Lloyd Kemmish (spouse, Marge), of Spokane, WA, Duane Kemmish (spouse, Vonda), of Persia, IA, and Lorna Hansen (spouse, Glenn), of San Diego, CA.

Education: attended Center country school near Valley View, IA and graduated from Persia High School in 1934. While in high school, Herma played basketball; she was the center on her team.

Religious affiliation: Herma was very active in her church and a lifetime member of United Methodist Church in Persia, IA

Employment: Herma was head cook at Tri-Center High School from 1966 to 1992

Hobbies/Interests: Famous for her love of sports and love of students, Herma will be fondly remembered for her chili and homemade cinnamon rolls. Herma was a true fan, attending all sporting events and school activities until she was unable to do so. After she retired, Herma volunteered at Jennie Edmundson Hospital, holding babies on the children’s floor. She continued her love of school activities, following her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and adopted Tri-Center family.
