Gertrude Marjorie, daughter of Edward W. and Marie (Wenzel) Hamann, was born May 7, 1923, near Manilla, Iowa. She attended country school at Greeley Township #1 in Shelby County. Gertrude then went to Manilla High School for two years before her mother died and she was needed at home to care for her family.

On October 10, 1943, Gertrude was united in marriage with Warren R. Wiese at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. Gertrude and Warren farmed south of Westside and then Arcadia before moving to their Shelby County farm south of Manilla. In 1970 they stopped farming and Gertrude worked at Trinity Lutheran Church for a year. In 1975 they moved into Manilla.

Gertrude was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla and then transferred her membership to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. She enjoyed being a homemaker, walking, doing crossword puzzles, reading, sewing and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

After the death of her husband Warren on May 23, 2000, Gertrude was able to remain in their home in Manilla for a couple of years before moving to assisted living facility Bickford Cottage in Fort Dodge. When her health began to fail she entered Marian Home in Fort Dodge where her sister also resided. She died there on September 7, 2013 at the age of 90 years and 4 months.

Besides her parents and husband, Gertrude was preceded in death by her sister Ruby (Marvin) Barratt, brother Junior Hamann and brother-in-laws Raynard Hanson and Leroy Caldwell.
