Died: Aug. 16, 2007, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, IA

Funeral services: Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, IA; Pastor Dennis Reich officiated. Burial was at Layton Township Cemetery in Walnut, IA.

Survived by: Husband of 61 years, Richard, of rural Walnut, IA; daughters, Diane Sievers of South Deerfield, MA, and Patricia Lehnhardt (spouse, James) of Galena, IL; grandson, Aaron Lehnhardt (spouse, Priscilla) and their daughter, Nyaa of Mission Viejo, CA; other relatives and many friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Alfred and Bernice (nee Poulsen) Hansen

Education: attended country school at Layton Township and graduated from Walnut (IA) High School, Class of 1943

Religious affiliation: baptized at the English Lutheran Church in Avoca, IA.

Marriage: Richard Sievers; Dec. 25, 1945; English Lutheran Church in Avoca, IA

Employment: After she finished high school, Phyllis worked at Nick George's Red and White Store; there, she met Richard Sievers who was working as the bookkeeper for the Walnut Fruit and Grocery Store (where she was later employed). After their marriage, they lived on her parents’ farm west of Walnut until 1954, when they moved to a farm south of Avoca. In 1961, they moved to their present home SE of Walnut. While Phyllis worked on the farm, she gardened, raised and sold African Violets and took care of her daughters. She later sold Avon products door to door.

Hobbies/Interests: Phyllis loved spending time with her family and cats and enjoyed the outdoors - especially witnessing sunsets from her own porch.
