Funeral services: Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, April 3, 2007, St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Harlan, IA; Rev. Bob Hoefler officiated. Burial with Military rites, conducted Shelby County VFW Post No. 941 and Harlan American Legion Helmer Reyelt Post No. 150, were at the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, IA.

Survived by: Son, Robert Schwarte of Huntington Beach, CA; daughters, Shirley Welker of Harlan, IA, and Tami (spouse, William) Stinn of Westphalia, IA; 2 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Rosetta Hendricks of Harlan, IA; nieces; nephews; other family members and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Herman and Rose (nee Lehan) Schwarte; wife of 60 years, Meritta Schwarte (deceased Nov. 6, 2003, Harlan, IA); brothers, Joseph, Frank, Wilford, and Henry; sister, Quirina Bauman

Education: attended grade school and high school at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Earling, IA

Religious affiliation: baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling, IA

Military service: Isidore enlisted in the U.S. Army in March of 1941, serving during World War II as a truck driver and as a driver for a general. He was stationed for a time in Kodiak, AK. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and the American Theater Ribbon before his honorable discharge in November of 1945.

Marriage: Meritta Hendricks; Jan. 21, 1943; St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, IA

Employment: Isidore farmed north of Harlan, IA for several years; he then was the manager of the Harlan City Roller Mill where they produced rolled oats for livestock. He remained at the mill until his retirement. After his retirement, he mowed lawns until he had his heart attack in 1992.

Hobbies/Interests: Isadore and Meritta enjoyed going to dances, especially polkas, with their friends. They also liked to get together with friends and play cards.
