Survived by: Children, Mary Lynn (spouse, Danny) Shallenberger of Omaha, NE, Cecil Schmitz (spouse, Monica) of North Sioux City, SD, and Galen Schmitz (spouse, Rebecca) of Corpus Christi, TX; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Sr. Bernice Schmitz of Harlan, IA, Lester Schmitz of Harlan, IA, La Vern Schmitz (spouse, Mary) of Defiance, IA, Luella Hull of Manning, IA, Arlene (spouse, Bob) Hodapp of Denver, CO, and Sr. Loraine Schmitz of Omaha, NE; other family members and friends

Education: attended St. Boniface Catholic School, Westphalia, IA, and graduated with the Class of 1942

Religious affiliation: baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Westphalia, IA

Military service: He entered the U.S. Army on April 30, 1945 and served during World War II in Japan from 1945 to 1946. He received an honorable discharge on Nov. 30, 1946 and returned home to help on the family farm.

Marriage: Evelyn Klein; April 13, 1950; location not provided

Employment: Farmed on their own land near Walnut, IA; in 1955 they moved to Omaha, NE., where Eldred worked at a dairy company; they later moved back to Westphalia, IA where Eldred was employed at the pork plant

Hobbies/Interests: After his retirement, he served in various leadership positions of the Veterans Administration. He was able to have flags donated for the cemetery, and ensured they were properly used. He sang with the St. Boniface choir for 40 years, and sang Taps for many funerals.
