Funeral services: Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Portsmouth, IA. Inurnment was held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Portsmouth, IA.

Survived by: Children: Beverly Jean Sandbothe (significant other, Thomas E. Turgeon), of Omaha, NE, Russell Michael Sandbothe, II (significant other, Becky Forman), of Denison, IA; grandchildren, Christopher William Lee Thomas Dougherty, MaryEllen Elizabeth Turgeon, Harley Starr-Lynn Turgeon, and Savannah Makayla Turgeon, all of Omaha, NE; former wife, Karen Lee Jensen of Denison, IA; brother, Vernon J. Sandbothe (spouse, Mary) of Atlantic, IA; sisters, Clara Smith of Kansas City, MO, Mary Wright of Magnolia, TX, and Bonnie Ferguson of Independence, MO; nieces; nephews; other family members and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Steven John and Barbara Agnus (nee Pauley) Sandbothe; sister, Bernice Klindt

Education: attended school at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Panama, IA

Religious affiliation: baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in Panama, IA, and remained a life-long member

Military service: In 1956, Russell enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country for 2 years; honorably discharged in 1958.

Marriage: Karen Lee Jensen; April 8, 1961, at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in Panama, IA. Divorced in 1976.

Employment: When first married, Russell worked two jobs at a time to support his new family, including working at Firestone and Wilson Packing House. In 1965, they moved back to Panama where he began farming and continued to work at Wilson Packing House. After leaving Wilson Packing House, Russell began driving trucks, where he enjoyed seeing the country. In the mid-1980's, Russell sold the farm and moved to Nebraska where he became interested in scraping, and worked as a Laborer for Local 1140 Labor Union. He remained in Nebraska for about 10 years before moving back to Iowa, where he continued his scraping interest.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, Knights of Columbus, Earling Council No. 1741, of Earling, IA, and the Panama (IA) Volunteer Fire Department. When Russell wasn’t busy working, he enjoyed playing cards and going to auctions and sales. Russell never really retired as he could always be found tinkering. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
