Employment: After graduation, Virginia worked at Farners Variety Store in Harlan, IA, until her marriage. The family lived on his parents’ farm near Tennant, Iowa, until 1954, when they bought a farm southwest of Elk Horn, Iowa. Virginia raised the children and helped on the farm before becoming employed with the Elk Horn-Kimballton (IA) School District. She worked as a school cook for 24 years and enjoyed being with the children.
