Funeral services: Monday, April 5, 2010, Pauley Jones Funeral Home, Harlan, IA; Dr. Rev. David Swinton officiated. Burial was at the Harlan Cemetery, Harlan, IA.

Survived by: Son, Charles George "Turk" Therkildsen (spouse, Joyce) of Inverness, IL; granddaughters, DeAnne (spouse, Tom) Prochnow of Bloomington, IL, and Debbi (spouse, Rich) Peterson of Elburn, IL; great-grandchildren, Chelsie, Charlie and Curtis Prochnow and Austin and Alyssa Peterson; 4 generations of nieces and nephews; special friends, Rosie and Don Thraen of Harlan, IA.
Predeceased by: Parents, George and Mary (nee Carlson) Adams; husbands, Glen A. Therkildsen (deceased 1950, after a fall from a ladder) and Ernie Peavler (deceased July 1975, Triplett, MO); sister, June; brothers, Lloyd and Roy Adams

Education: attended school in Kirkman (IA) and graduated from Kirkman High School. Opal then moved to Council Bluffs, IA, where she entered nurses training at Jennie Edmundson Hospital and completed her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Marriage: (1) Glen A. Therkildsen, Febr. 18, 1931, Harlan, IA (2) Martin E. “Ernie” Peavler, Aug. 19, 1954, Council Bluffs, IA

Employment: In 1950, after Glen died, Opal continued to live in Harlan while working as a retail clerk. She was then employed at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA., where she met (and married in 1954) Ernie Peavler, who was also employed at the hospital. Opal and Ernie later retired to Ernie’s hometown of Triplett, MO. Not long after Ernie’s death in 1975, Opal returned to live in Harlan, IA.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, United Methodist Builders Class; member, Order of the Eastern Star for more than fifty years where she served as a Worthy Matron. Was active in many clubs including Knitters, CC Club, and Tuesday Morning Coffee Klutch at Mickels.
