Linn D. Johnk - Age 61

Linn Dale Johnk was born on October 21, 1950 to Virgil and Florence (Lehnhardt) Johnk in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Linn graduated from the Walnut Community High School.

He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1974 with a Master of Arts degree. He then went on to receive his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Texas in Austin, Texas in 1979.

Linn moved to Cupertino, California and started working for Hewlett Packard (HP) in June of 1984. After over 30 years in the business, he became a forerunner in the field of Software User Experience Design. He was relied upon for design standards and processes at HP. His professionalism, commitment and reliability were widely valued across the company. He was a great person, willing to share and help other people grow.

He was also involved with the California Department of Human Services through his job at HP in which he became a mentor to young individuals. This was a huge part of his life and something he was very passionate about. He was a quiet and gentle person.

Along with writing books on computers and being an active mentor, Linn also enjoyed flower gardening and keeping up on the University of Iowa sports teams. He traveled yearly to the Cupertino bay area for the annual Jazz festival where he joined old friends from his stay in the bay area. He was also longtime member of the Presbyterian Church in Walnut, Iowa.

Linn moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he continued to work for HP. He recently built a beautiful new home in Council Bluffs, Iowa and this is where he died on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 having attained the age of sixty-one years and four months. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his aunt Vera and her husband Milton Mueller of Walnut, Iowa; many cousins and friends.

Pastor David Krueger officiated the 11:00 am memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church in Walnut, Iowa on Saturday, March 24, 2012. Inurnment was held at the Layton Township Cemetery in Walnut.
