Lyle "Ray" Bryan - Age 65

Lyle Ray Bryan was born on August 10, 1947 in Clay Center, Kansas to Lyle Blaine and Erville (Stinemetz) Bryan. He attended elementary school in Lewis, Iowa and also went to Exira and Anita schools before the family settled in Missouri Valley. He then voluntarily joined the United States Navy to serve his country in Vietnam. He served from September, 1964 until September, 1967 at which time he was honorably discharged.

He married Sue Pomeroy on February 14, 1968 and two sons were born to this union: John Michael Bryan and Scott Robert Pomeroy.

Ray met Sara Follstad in Denver, Colorado and on September 24, 1983 they married in Lakewood, Colorado. Ray and Sara gave life to two boys: Jason Ray and Benjamin David Bryan.

Ray showed great athleticism and really enjoyed golfing. He loved fishing and spending time outdoors. He took great pride in his family and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, as well as attending all the family reunions.

Ray worked in various sales positions and most recently he worked in car sales in Denver. In 2003, he and Sara moved to their home in Avoca; shortly thereafter he became disabled. He played pool for the Exchange in Avoca and poker at the Fireside in Atlantic. He had a wonderful sense of humor which radiated to those around him.

Ray died on September 5, 2012 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska having attained the age of sixty-five years and twenty-six days. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his niece Shellie.

He is survived by his wife Sara Bryan of Avoca, Iowa; his sons: John Bryan of Terrell, Texas, Scott Pomeroy of Kemp, Texas, Jason Bryan and his fiancé Kelly Caywood of Oakland, Iowa and Benjamin Bryan of Avoca; six grandchildren; his sisters: Vickie and her husband Jim Gillespie of Harlan, Iowa, Debbie Bryan of Denver, Colorado, and Cherie Eckhoff of Harlan; his brother Jeff Bryan and his wife Donna of Fort Calhoun, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends, who all loved him and miss him very much.

Pastor Donna Ewert officiated the 4:00 pm funeral service at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa on Sunday, September 9, 2012. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
