Peggy Jo Benson - Age 60

Peggy Jo Benson was born on December 18, 1951, in Norfolk, Nebraska, to Eugene and Lorraine (Petersen) Busch. She had one sister, Kathy. She graduated from Stanton High School in Stanton, Nebraska, with the class of 1969. After graduating from high school, she attended Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota. Here, she received her teaching degree in 1973. She then went on to receive her masters at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.

Peggy met Roger during high school and it was September 1, 1973, that the couple was married at St. Peters Catholic Church in Stanton. Two children were born to this union: Jennifer and Craig. Peggy was very involved with her children and enjoyed attending all of their school activities.
Peggy was a second grade teacher throughout most of her career and loved teaching reading. She enjoyed playing golf, gardening, and Husker football. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Avoca where she was very active in the church and taught CCD classes.

Peggy died on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha having attained the age of sixty years, five months and eighteen days. She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Busch.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Roger Benson of Avoca; her children: Jennifer Benson of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Craig Benson of Lincoln, Nebraska; her mother, Lorraine Busch of Stanton, Nebraska; her sister, Kathy Schiermeier of Omaha, Nebraska, and her niece, Shelley and her husband Gary McDonald of Omaha.

Rev. Chris Fontanini celebrated the 10:30 am Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 8, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Avoca, Iowa. Burial was held in Graceland Cemetery in Avoca with Jerry McCarthy, Bob McCarthy, Stan Thies, Jim Wharton, Frank Catania, and Rick Killion serving as casket bearers.
