Milda J. Baker - Age 96

Milda Jane Baker was born on June 10, 1916 to Harvey and Belle (Pulver) Errett in Lane, South Dakota. She was baptized in the Methodist Church when she was sixteen years old. She graduated from Harlan High School.

She was united in marriage to Edward Stuhr on March 21, 1936. Four children were born to them: William, Delores, Richard, and Betty. On February 2, 1945, she was married to Leonard Larsen and had three daughters: JoAnn, Linda, and Diana.

On October 26, 1968, she was united in marriage to Olin "Buck" Baker. They continued to live in Harlan.

Milda was an excellent cook and worked at several area cafés including Mickel’s Restaurant, Chicken Hut, Mohr’s Drive-In, White Star, Harlan Café and Maid Rite before retiring from the Evergreen Inn in 1978. She liked to cook and sew and was always willing to do things for her children and grandchildren.

After Buck’s death in 1996, Milda continued to live on her own until becoming a resident of Elm Crest Retirement Home in September of 2011. It was there that she died on Monday, October 15, 2012 having attained the age of ninety-six years, four months, and five days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Edward, Leonard, and Buck, and all of her brothers and sisters: Dale Errett, Ruby Jordan, Bonnie Errett, Raymond Errett, and Dorothy Errett.

Milda is survived by her children: William "Bill" Stuhr of Harlan, Iowa, Delores Summers of Marshalltown, Iowa, Richard Stuhr and his wife Marlene of Missouri City, Texas, Betty Kroger of St. George, Utah, JoAnn Larsen of Denison, Iowa, Linda Larsen of Omaha, Nebraska, and Diane Larsen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; step-daughter Rhonda and her husband Larry Wendt of Ceresco, Nebraska; fourteen grandchildren; fifty-six great-grandchildren; nineteen great-great-grandchildren; other family members and friends.

Pastor Darwin Moore officiated the 11:00 AM funeral service on Friday, October 19, 2012 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa. Serving as casket bearers were Craig Larsen, Sr., Keith Ahrenholtz, Jason Anderson, Calvin Buttry, Michael Buttry, Randy Ouren, Chuck Allmon, and Jeff Schultz. Interment was held in the Harlan Cemetery.
