Lois M. Field - Age 94

Lois Martha Field was born on September 24, 1918 to Edward and Martha (Schuelzky) Kersten near Logan, Iowa in Magnolia Township. She was baptized at the Community of Christ Church in Logan and graduated from Magnolia High School with the Class of 1936. She continued her education at Jenny Edmundson School of Nursing, graduating with the Nursing Class of 1941.

On January 30, 1943, Lois was united in marriage to Dwane Louis Field in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he was stationed with the Marine Corps. They became parents to four children: Dennis, Lynn, Russell, and Martha.

Lois worked as a nurse at the hospital in Missouri Valley over nights so she could be home with her children during the day. In 1973, the family moved to Harlan and she worked at Myrtue Memorial Hospital until she retired in August of 1989.

She was an active member of the Community of Christ Church in Harlan and held various offices. She was also an active member of the community and helped with her children’s activities such as 4-H, and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Lois died on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Elm Crest Retirement Home in Harlan, having attained the age of ninety-four years, four months, and thirteen days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Dennis in 1989, her daughter Martha in 2008, and her brothers and sisters: Miriam, Lloyd, Lauren, Kenneth, Karol, and Chuck.

She is survived by her sons Russell Field of Stanton, Iowa and Lynn Field and his wife Shauna of Alpena, Michigan; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Donna Sorenson of Harlan, Iowa and Shirley Kersten of Logan, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.

The 11:00 AM funeral service was officiated by Elder Noel Sherer, Elder Kirk Petersen, and Elder Jim Anderson on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the Community of Christ Church in Woodbine, Iowa. Music was provided by Tom Morain and Rick Powell. The family suggested memorials be made to the Harlan Community of Christ Church or Myrtue Medical Center Hospice. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
