Dorothy Ann, daughter of Harry and Catherine (Dalgety) Petersen, was born October 13, 1921, and raised on a farm north of Manning, Iowa. She attended school and graduated from Manning High School with the class of 1939.

On July 19, 1939, Dorothy was united in marriage with Glenn Rowedder at the Presbyterian Manse in Manning. Four children were born to this union. In 1944, they began farming and raising Duroc hogs north of the Manning-Manilla Golf Course, where they lived for 25 years and raised their family. Besides the household and child-rearing chores, Dorothy worked side by side with Glenn on the farm and later on carpentry jobs. In 1969, Glenn and Dorothy purchased a lot in south Manning to build their new home which they enjoyed for many years.

Dorothy was truly a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Throughout the years Dorothy enjoyed entertaining family, friends and neighbors and shared her favorites with all. Her specialties of potato salad, peppernuts, sugar and chocolate chip cookies were generously shared. She stayed active with babysitting, sporting events of her children and grandchildren, and embroidering tea towels, but one of her favorite past-times was playing cards, and her spirit for competition remained constant.

Dorothy was a charter member of the neighborhood Happy Hour Club, a member of the VFW Auxiliary, an active member of the United Methodist Church in Manning where she taught Sunday School and served in every officer position of the United Methodist Women. She was given the Special Mission Recognition Award which gave her lifetime membership in the United Methodist Women Organization.
