David G (Gawley?) Dales was born October 20, 1856 at Cambridge, Guernsey, Ohio to Andrew William Dales and Mary Gawley, the 2nd of their 10 children. David's siblings were: William G, John Howard, Andrew William, Sarah Jane, Eleanor, Mary Ellen, Margaret Ann, Martha Isabell and Agnes Maud.

Family found in the 1870 census living at Cambridge, Guernsey, Ohio: Andrew Dales 45, Mary Dales 36, William Dales 15, David Dales 13, John Dales 10, Andrew Dales 8, Sarah J Dales 6, Mary E Dales 4, Margaret Dales 2, Isabel Dales 6/12.

Found David in the 1880 census at Jefferson, Shelby, Iowa: David Dales, age 24, renting a room, single, farmer.

David married Nancy Ann Veach on February 10, 1881 at Jasper, Iowa. The couple had one son, Earl Samuel David Dales (born November 20, 1881 Newton, Jasper, Iowa, died May 10, 1959 Manning, Carroll, Iowa).

Found David in the 1885 census living at Jefferson, Shelby, Iowa with his parents, he was a widower, his son Samuel was age 3: Andrew Dales 61, Mary Dales 53, David Dales 28, John Dales 25, Sary Dales 19, Mary E Dales 18, Margarett Dales 16, Isabell Dales 13, Agness Dales 9, Samuel A Dales 3 (David's son).

David joined the 3rd United States Calvary, Grigsby's Rough Riders, on May 9, 1898 at age 41 and served in the Spanish American War. He survived.

David returned home and married Mae Evalyn Watson on February 22, 1899 at Sioux Falls, Minnehaha, South Dakota. The couple had 1 daughter, Flora and 1 son, Logan.

David G Dales died June 7, 1939 at Harlan, Shelby, Iowa and was buried at the Harlan Cemetery.
