ROLAND H. ESKOV, 87, of Elk Horn, died Mon., March 26th, in Elk Horn (IA). Funeral services for ROLAND ESKOV will be held 2-p.m. Fri., March 30th, at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan has the arrangements.

Visitation at the funeral home is from Noon-9pm Thu., March 29th, with the family greeting friends from 4-7pm., and a Prayer service at 7-p.m.

Burial will be in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery.

His wife – Martha Eskov, of Elk Horn;
His brother – Lawrence Eskov, of Elk Horn;
His sister-in-law: Mary (Richard) Anderson, of Kimballton;
other relatives, and friends.

Roland passed away on Monday, March 26 in Elk Horn. Survivors include his wife, Martha Eskov of Elk Horn; 1 Brother, Lawrence Eskov of Elk Horn; 1 sister-in-law, Mary (Richard) Anderson of Kimballton; 5 Nieces & Nephews; 5 Great-Nieces & Great-Nephews; other relatives and many friends. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral home in Harlan is in charge of arrangements where friends may call from noon to 9pm on Thursday, March 29 and family will be present from 4 to 7pm followed by a prayer service at 7pm.

Roland Henry Eskov
July 10, 1924 - March 26, 2012

Roland Henry Eskov, the son of Hans Peter and Emma Christina (Mathiesen) Eskov, was born on July 10, 1924, in Elk Horn, Iowa. He attended Clay #2 country school and later, Elk Horn High School. In October 1945, Roland entered the United States Army Air Corps, and served eleven months in Guam until his honorable discharge in April 1946.

On November 14, 1948, Roland married Martha Jean Henriksen at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, Iowa. The couple farmed briefly near Brayton, Iowa, before farming one mile south and two miles west of Elk Horn. After living on this farm for 53 years, they moved into Elk Horn, in 2002. On March 1, 2012, Roland became a resident of the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn.

Roland was a member of the Elk Horn Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post #332 of Elk Horn, and the Danish Immigrant Museum. He was also a Farm Bureau member and a member of the Danish Windmill Corporation, as well as an associate member of the Better Elk Horn Club. Roland loved farming and all the tasks associated with living in the country, including mowing and caring for the homestead. He enjoyed traveling with Martha; they visited many states and wintered down south. He also like to golf.

Roland H. Eskov died on Monday, March 26, 2012, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa, at the age of 87 years, 8 months, and 16 days.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents and one sister-in-law, Ethel Eskov. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Martha Eskov of Elk Horn, Iowa; one brother, Lawrence Eskov of Elk Horn, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Mary (Richard) Anderson of Kimballton, Iowa; five nieces and nephews, Charles Kent (Cheryl) Eskov, Mary Lea (Scott) Graham, Jay (Barb) Anderson, Andy (Elizabeth) Anderson, and Dan (Lisa) Anderson; five great-nieces and great-nephews, Carter Anderson, Carson Anderson, Blaine Anderson, Grace Anderson, and Isaac Anderson; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 30, 2012, at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, Iowa, with Pastor Keith Menter officiating. Nancy Watson served as organist, and Pastor Menter was the soloist. Honorary casket bearers were Lyle Petersen, H. John Jones, John Leistad, Cy Petersen, Henry Walter, Roland Hansen, Douglas Smith, Glen Clemsen, and Ed Larsen. Active bearers were Andy Anderson, Jay Anderson, Dan Anderson, Charles Kent Eskov, Larry Eskov, Dave Clark, Carter Anderson, Blaine Anderson, Carson Anderson, and Grace Anderson. Burial was in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery in Elk Horn, Iowa, with military graveside rites performed by the American Legion Post #322 of Elk Horn. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan was in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be left online at burmeisterjohannsen.com.
