CONSTANCE “CONNIE” J. HENKELMAN, 60, of Harlan, died Wed., Feb. 15th. Funeral services for CONNIE HENKLEMAN will be held 2-p.m. Sat., Feb. 18th, at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan.

Visitation at the funeral home is from Noon-until 2-pm, Saturday.

Burial will be in the Harlan Cemetery.

CONNIE HENKLEMAN is survived by:
Her Mother – Thelma McCallum, of Harlan;
Her Special Friend – Wayne Nevel, of Harlan;
Her sons – Fred (Aubrey) Schuler, of Atlantic, & Thomas “TJ” Schuler, of Omaha, NE.;
Her daughters – Donna Schuler, of Shelby; Jenny Schuler (& Special Friend Wendy Pieken), of Avoca; Deanna (Nick) Hoversten, of Story City; Franny (Doug) Lekander, of Tea, SD; & Tammy Schuler, of Avoca;
Her sisters – Linda (David) Frain, of Omaha; Violet (Allan) Weiss, of Cross, SC; Betty Briggs (& Special Friend Bob Summerfield), of Harlan;
Her brothers – Jim (Marsha) Blaine, of Cross, SC & Larry (Bonnie) Blaine, of Harlan;

Funeral service for 60 year old Constance "Connie" J. Henkelman of Harlan will be held at 2pm on Saturday, February 18 at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral home in Harlan. Burial will be in the Harlan Cemetery. Connie passed away on Wednesday, February 15 in Harlan. Survivors include her mother, Thelma McCallum of Harlan; her special friend, Wayne Nevel of Harlan; 2 sons: Fred (Aubrey) Schuler of Atlantic and Thomas "TJ" Schuler of Omaha, NE; 5 daughters: Donna Schuler of Shelby; Jenny Schuler (Special friend, Wendy Pieken) of Avoca; Deanna (Nick) Hoversten of Story City; Franny (Doug) Lekander of Tea, SD; and Tammy Schuler of Avoca; 3 Step-Children: Adam Henkelman and Heather (Marcus) Kelly all of Harlan; Alicia Henkelman of Omaha, NE; 15 Grandchildren; 3 sisters; and 2 Brothers. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan is in charge of arrangements where friends may call 2 hours prior to the service on Saturday afternoon, February 18.

Constance "Connie" Jane (Blaine) Henkelman
November 14, 1951 - February 15, 2012

Constance "Connie" Jane Henkelman, the daughter of Jasper Jesse and Thelma Louise (Myers) Blaine, was born on November 14, 1951 in Harlan, Iowa. She attended Harlan schools, and earned her GED in her 30's. In 1969, Connie married Marvin Lee Schuler, and the couple had seven children. They lived on a dairy farm in Wisconsin and later moved to Avoca. Connie and Marvin divorced, and Connie married Clem Anthony Henkelman in 1990. Clem and Connie lived in Defiance, Iowa. The couple divorced, and in 2002, Connie moved to Harlan.

Connie loved caring for her children and enjoyed babysitting for others. She liked to watch soap operas, and loved watching children play in baseball and soccer games.

Connie J. Henkelman died on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at her home in Harlan, Iowa, at the age of 60 years, 3 months, and 1 day.

Connie was preceded in death by her father and her step-father, Rev. Norman McCallum. She is survived by her mother, Thelma McCallum of Harlan, Iowa; her special friend, Wayne Nevel of Harlan, Iowa; two sons, Fred (Aubrey) Schuler of Atlantic, Iowa, and Thomas "TJ" Schuler of Omaha, Nebraska; five daughters, Donna Schuler of Shelby, Iowa, Jenny Schuler (special friend, Wendy Pieken) of Avoca, Iowa, Deanna (Nick) Hoversten of Story City, Iowa, Franny (Doug) Lekander of Tea, South Dakota, and Tammy Schuler of Avoca, Iowa; three sisters, Linda (David) Frain of Omaha, Nebraska, Violet (Allan) Weiss of Cross, South Carolina, and Betty Briggs (special friend, Bob Summerfield) of Harlan, Iowa; two brothers, Jim (Marsha) Blaine of Cross, South Carolina, and Larry (Bonnie) Blaine of Harlan, Iowa; three step-children, Adam Henkelman of Harlan, Iowa, Alicia Henkelman of Omaha, Nebraska, and Heather (Marcus) Kelly of Harlan, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, with Pastor Ron Rasmussen of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Jacksonville, Iowa, officiating. Casket bearers were Tim Nevel, Larry Blaine, Jeremy Briggs, Marcus Kelly, Nick Hoversten, and Doug Lekander. Burial was in the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan was in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be left online at burmeisterjohannsen.com.
