VELMA HENRIETTA LUBBE, 91, of Harlan died Monday, February 6th in Harlan. Funeral services for Velma Henrietta Lubbe will be held on Friday, February 10th at 11:00am at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel in Council Bluffs,where they are also handling the arrangements.

Visitation with the family Thursday 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park funeral home.

Burial in the Cedar Lawn Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Cutler-O’Neill- Walnut Hill Reception Center.

Memorials to Treynor Fire and Rescue.

Funeral services for 91 year old Velma Henrietta Lubbe of Harlan will be held at 11am on Friday, February 10 at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel in Council bluffs. Velma passed away on Monday, February 6. Survivors include her sister, Darlene Schuning of Harlan; nephew, Richard (Diana) Schuning of Neola; nieces: Diane (Cal) Nielsen of Harlan; Marilyn (Pat) McKeighan of Council Bluffs; 2 Great-nephews; 7 Great-Nieces; 4 Great-Great-Nephews; and 6 Great-Great-Nieces. The Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel in Council Bluffs is in charge of arrangements where visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8pm on Thursday, February 9.

Velma Henrietta Lubbe

Velma Henrietta Lubbe, age 91, passed away Monday, February 6, 2012, in Harlan, Iowa.

She was born December 4, 1920, to Louise (Graalfs) Lubbe and Bill Lubbe in Hardin Township. She graduated from country school and attended Treynor High for one year. She decided high school was not for her so she hired out to help mothers with new born babies and also cleaned houses for many people. When her brother started farming, following his time in the service, Velma moved in with him until he married. She then worked at Blue Star Foods and then at Jennie Edmundson Hospital for 14 years in the Housekeeping Department. Velma lived on her brothers farm in the Treynor area for 40 years until his passing, when she moved to Harlan, living in a apartment and then at Elm Crest Retirement Home. Velma often talked about the drought when she was a little girl and walking for 2 miles to country school. She enjoyed riding in a horse and buggy once in a while.

Velma is preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Marvin Lubbe.

She leaves to mourn, her sister, Darlene Schuning, of Harlan; nephew, Richard Schuning and wife, Diana, of Neola; nieces, Diane Nielsen and husband, Cal, of Harlan, Marilyn McKeighan and husband, Pat, of Council Bluffs; 2 great nephews, 7 great nieces, 4 great-great nephews, 6 great-great nieces.

Visitation with the family Thursday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services Friday, 11 a.m., all at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Reverend Tony Paff, Pastor, St. John's United Church of Christ, Officiant. Interment Cedar Lawn Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel Walnut Hill Reception Center. Memorials to Treynor Fire and Rescue.
