Funeral Services for 58 year old Larry Kenkel of Dunlap will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, February 16th at the Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap. Mr. Kenkel passed away on Sunday, February 13 at the Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Survivors include his wife: Jessie Kenkel of Dunlap; 3 Children: Eric Fuller of Waterloo; Jennifer Fuller of Ames; and Alisha Rodasky of Council Bluffs. The Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap is in charge of arrangements where visitation will begin at 5pm on Tuesday, February 14 with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7pm.

Larry John Kenkel was born December 14, 1952, in Harlan, Iowa to Don and Maurecia (Lehan) Kenkel. He was raised in Dunlap and graduated from high school in 1971. After graduation Larry worked alongside his father in various packing plants in Omaha, Nebraska until later moving closer to home to work at the Boyer Valley Company in Denison, Iowa. Larry was united in marriage to Jessie Mae on September 7, 1989, by a Justice of the Peace in Denison. The couple made their home in Dunlap. When Larry retired in 2000 due to failing health, Larry and Jessie enjoyed fishing in different parks in Harrison and Crawford County.

Larry enjoyed his pets and especially the late Stud Muffin. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends; relaxing and enjoying the outdoors with fun jokes as well as bonfires to watch the babysitting kids roast marshmallows, or just to sit and watch them tear around the yard and get into stuff that little kids get into. Larry spent the last couple of years helping Jessie Mae take care of four boys that will always hold a special place in his heart, Austin, Ethan, Aiden and Evan. Larry was best known for his ability to grill anything. Most of all he will be remembered for his one of a kind sense of humor and his ability to give anyone a hard time. He could bring a smile to anyone’s face.

Larry died February 13, 2011, at the Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 58 years, one month, and 30 days.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Danny Kenkel; father-in-law, Clifford Torgerson; and sister-in-law Stacey Torgerson. He is survived by his wife, Jessie Kenkel of Dunlap, IA; three children, Eric Fuller of Waterloo, IA, Jennifer Fuller of Ames, IA, Alisha Rodasky of Council Bluffs, IA; one grandchild; mother-in-law Maggie and Bill Bosanko of Canutillo, TX; three brothers-in-law, Junior and Angie Porter of Woodbine, IA, Kevin and Marie Porter of Canutillo, TX, Norman and Lori Torgerson of Indianola, NE; two sisters-in-law, Pattie Kenkel of Waterloo, NY, Susan and Don Basanko of Canutillo, TX; special friends, Brian and Nakia Zavitz and their four sons Austin, Ethan, Aidan, and Evan of Dunlap, IA; and many other relatives and friends.
