Published in The Daily Nonpareil from October 14 to October 16, 2011Lillian M. Gordon, age 98, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away October 13, 2011.
Lillian was born December 2, 1912, in Dow City, Iowa, to the late Fred and Grace (Smith) Bird. She was raised in the Crescent, Iowa area and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1930. Lillian was a cashier for the United Way of Omaha for 24 1/2 years, retiring in 1975.
She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church; past president of Omaha Assembly Social Order of Beauceant; past high priestess of White Shrine of Jerusalem; member of Harmony Chapter No. 25, Order of Eastern Star.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Gordon in 1995.
She is survived by her son, Roger (Norma) Gordon, of Springfield, Ill.; 4 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; 5 sisters, Gladys Jensen, of Hermitage, Mo., Viola Anderson, Ione Spitznagle, Lucille Weatherill, Norma Heath, all of Council Bluffs; 2 brothers, Robert (Gen) Bird, of Frisco, Texas, Melvin (Kay) Bird, of Council Bluffs; nieces and nephews.
Harmony Chapter, No. 25, Order of Eastern Star Service Monday, 5 p.m., followed by visitation with the family until 7 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral Service Tuesday, 11 a.m., at the mortuary with Rev. Judith Wozniak officiating. Interment Cedar Lawn Cemetery with a lunch following at Emanuel Lutheran Church. Memorials are suggested to Emanuel Lutheran Church, 2444 North Broadway, Council Bluffs, Iowa 51503.
