Funeral services for Cornelia J. Bartscher, 75, Walcott, were held July 17, 1995 at the Lacock-Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, with the Rev. Robert Treichel officiating. Eva Lu Murrison was the organist and pallbearers were Brian, Jeffrey and David Bartscher, Aaron and Jason Freyermuth, and Brian Holst. Burial was in the Durant cemetery.

Mrs. Bartscher died July 13 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

The daughter of Louis and Lydia Noble James, she was born Dec. 19, 1919 in Scott county. She married Lester W. Bartscher Dec. 21, 1941 in Blue Grass. He died Jan. 3, 1986. Prior to her marriage she taught in a country school.

The couple farmed in Scott county.

Mrs. Bartscher was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Bennett; the New England Women's Club, a former Bennett PTA member, and a former 4-H leader in Scott county. She enjoyed writing and wrote numerous letters to family and friends.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet Freyermuth, Adel; 4 sons, Michael, Columbus, Neb.; Lawrence, Bettendorf; James, Slater; and William, Walcott; and a brother, Robert James, Miami, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Louis James.

Memorials may be made to Peace church or the Durant ambulance.
