Funeral services for David J. Ellingsworth, 30, Iowa City and formerly of Durant, were held Oct. 15, 1994 at Gloria Dei Lutheran church in Durant, with the Rev. David Lawson officiating. Burial was in the Davenport Memorial Park cemetery.

Mr. Ellingsworth died Oct. 13 at University of Iowa hospitals and clinics from complications of AIDS.

The son of Don R. and Carole E. Bruner Ellingsworth, he was born Dec. 7, 1963 in Davenport. He was a 1982 graduate of Durant high school and had attended the University of Iowa, where he was an opera performance major.

Mr. Ellingsworth had lived in Chicago, Ill. for 5 years, where he was involved in real estate leasing and marketing. He was selected Leasing Director of the Year in 1990. He returned to Iowa City in 1991.

In past years he was active in the Quad City Music Guild and the Chordbusters Barbershop Chorus.

He served on the board of ICARE and the Johnson County AIDS Coalition. In May 1993 he was selected as the ICARE volunteer of the year. He testified before the United States Senate Subcommittee for full funding of the Ryan White Care Act and research funds for the National Institute of Health and the Center for Disease Control. He also lobbied in Washington, D.C. and Des Moines for AIDS funding.

He was a member of the Iowa Community AIDS Partnership, the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS directors, the statewide Task Force, the National Association of People With AIDS and the Southeast Iowa AIDS Consortium. He was a firm believer in AIDS education and enjoyed speaking to groups of all ages.

He is survived by his parents; a sister, Kim Wilson, Galesburg, Ill.; his grandmothers, Mary Bruner and Arlys Ellingsworth, both of Davenport; his nephew, Cody; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers.
