Funeral services for Clarence F. Meyer, 94, Wheatland, were held Aug. 23, 1994 at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland, with the Rev. John Rosenberger officiating. Burial was in the Dixon cemetery.
Mr. Meyer died Aug. 20 at Wheatland Manor Nursing Home, where he had resided for the past 10 years.
The son of Fritz and Carrie Jipp Meyer, he was born May 1, 1900 in Big Rock. He graduated from Davenport high school in 1922 and was a member of the school wrestling team. He married Mabel VanBlair May 30, 1936 in Oklahoma City, Okla. She died in 1972.
Mr. Meyer was one of the first farmers in Scott county to practice contour farming and he was the first farmer in the Big Rock area to harvest corn with a combine. After retiring from farming he refinished furniture.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Wheatland and the Masonic Lodge. He was a former member of Dixon cemetery board, former president of the Dixon Telephone Co., a former Moose member, former Farm Bureau member, former Wheatland council member and former Wheatland school board member.
Mr. Meyer is survived by a son, Fred, Walcott and 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister.
