Funeral services for Walter Dietz, 98, Wilton, were held June 13, 1994 at the Runge Mortuary in Davenport, with burial in the Walcott cemetery.

Mr. Dietz died June 8 at the Wilton Care Center.

He was a former Iowa legislator and dairy farmer.

He married Grace Kuehl in 1918. She died in 1923. He married Lillian Sinksen in 1924. She died in 1989.

Mr. Dietz raised and sold milking shorthorn cattle and operated the Walcott View dairy, delivering milk in Walcott in the 1940's. He was past president of the Quality Milk Association (now Swiss Valley Farms).

He worked as a claims adjuster for Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance for 13 years and he was president of the Scott County Farm Bureau in 1934-35. He was a Democratic representative in the Iowa legislature from 1937 to 1943, and again in 1969-70. He was also chairman of the Scott county board of supervisors in 1965-66.

Mr. Dietz was a past president of the Walcott cemetery when Memory Gardens was devolped.

He served on an 18 man trade mission to Japan in 1963 to promote soybean sales.

Mr. Dietz was a life member of Walcott Knights of Pythias, a member of the Davenport Moose Lodge and Elks, Scott County Farm Bureau and Durant Senior Citizens. He was also past president of the Golden Wedding Club.

He enjoyed playing cards, visiting family and corresponding with relatives.

Mr. Dietz is survived by 4 daughters, Lorraine (Mrs. Harry) Grandjean and Lois Okleshen, both of Tucson, Ariz.; Darlene (Mrs. Jerry) Sharp, Geneseo, Ill.; and Joyce (Mrs. Everett) Weirup, Chandler, Ariz.; a son, Leon, Durant; 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Mr. Dietz was preceded in death by a daughter, Dona Macia, in 1991.
