Obituary
Mary Jane Letendre, 71, of Rock Island passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Thursday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Memorials may be left in care of Alleman High School or the Women’s Choice Center.

Mary Jane was born on September 26, 1950 in Moline, a daughter of William and Irene (Van Puy Velde) Elder. She graduated from Alleman High School and attended Blackhawk College and Northern Illinois University. Mary Jane married Colin Letendre on August 10, 1974. She thoroughly enjoyed her 17 years at Augustana College as a secretary in the English Department and loved all the faculty, staff and student helpers she worked with over the years.

Mary Jane enjoyed baking and cooking from scratch, both of which she did deliciously well. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock Island, where she launched the prayer chain and continued to manage it for two decades. She was also very involved with the Quad City Area Right to Life.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Colin; children, Adam (Amy) Letendre, Laura Letendre, Peter (Randi) Letendre, and Anna (Cameron) Reyman; grandchildren, Ava, Alysse, Cooper, Ivy, Timothy, Dorothy, Melinda, and one on the way; siblings, Theresa (Jack) Sadler, and Paul (Sheri) Elder; and brother-in-law, Richard Farrell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Paul Letendre; and sister, Irene Farrell.

Special thanks to Dr. Constantinou, Heather, Megan and all the wonderful nursing staff at Unity Point Cancer Center. Further thanks to the Unity Point at Home hospice staff for their home care both this year and in 2021.
