Obituary

Beverly Jane Sands, 82, of Davenport, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Senior Star, Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Beverly was born on January 1, 1940 in Burlington, Iowa, the first born of the new year and the daughter of Harold and Genevieve (Schuler) Nebel. Following her graduation from Burlington High School, she attended Southeast Community College where she earned her teaching degree in elementary education. Beverly began her teaching career in Anamosa, Iowa when she met her future husband, Donald D. Sands. They were married on September 1, 1963. She later worked at the Scott Co. Auditor’s Office and at John Deere Health Care prior to her retirement in 2000. Beverly was a member of ABWA and Bettendorf Presbyterian Church. In her youth she was an accomplished ballerina. As an adult she enjoyed playing volleyball and was a talented artist, quilter and cake “engineer”. She loved playing bridge with friends and games with her grandchildren.

In retirement, Don and Bev enjoyed traveling in their RV across the U.S. Her most favorite memory was participating in the building of a Rose Bowl Parade float in 2004. They were active members in various national RV clubs.

Those left to honor her memory are her daughter, Jennifer (James) Houghton of Bettendorf; sons, Eric Sands of Calamus, Iowa, Don (Daileen) Sands II of Davenport; five grandchildren, JK Houghton, Jacob Houghton, Julia Houghton, Magnus Sands, and Kaiser Sands; sister Mary Lou (Roger) Keester of Bettendorf; and nephews, Curt Keester of Pennsylvania and Doug (Emily) Keester of Colorado.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by both her husband and son James, who died in infancy.
