Alberta “Bert” Medd, 96, died July 11, 2022, following complications of a fractured hip. Although Bert’s hip was broken, her amazing ears remained perfect, enabling her to listen to many more songs and stories as family surrounded her with love and strength for her last sentimental journey home.

As we all say goodbye to Bert from different places on the map and different stages in our lives, we blow her the same kisses she blew to us whenever our treasured time together came to an end. She always believed in the promise of the next visit, and we will carry that hope with us.

While Bert travels forward on her journey, she brings with her the moments she created with those who preceded her in death: Richard Lee Medd, beloved husband of 73 years, Albert and Agnes Vinton, cherished parents, and an endless group of friends who covered the streets, sidewalks, and scenes of Moline with decades of shared traditions.

Alberta contributed to Moline, and the greater Quad City Area, in many ways including her service to King’s Daughters, Meals on Wheels, the PTA, Cub Scouts, and Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. She was a faithful supporter of Mildred’s Dairy, Medd-O-Lane, and Dairy Queen, pitching in whenever needed for roles that demanded her expertise and patience.

Undoubtedly, Alberta Medd’s starring role was as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Family members who continue to receive the benefits of her love on earth include her four children, Gary Medd (Jean) of Davenport, James Medd (Sandy) of Nashville, Judy Schuler (Jere) of Cincinnati, Rich Medd (Stacey) of Coralville, ten grandchildren including David Medd, Cynthia Sanger, Christy Medd, Kori Medd, Grant Kilgard, Wayne Kilgard, Celia Schnupp, Gabriel Medd, Kellie Coy, Jason Schuler, twenty-six great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

We will not only remember Bert Medd as the wife, mom, grandma, great grandma, or great-great grandma who gave us the world’s best potato salad or co-created an unforgettable home that joined us all by her river. Above all, we will cherish her immense capacity to harmonize - not only through any song at any place or any time, but via her willingness to offer every member of our family the chance to share our own tunes, our own contributions to the world, while listening with pride and presence. As with Bert’s vocalizing, she only added the notes that gave our melodies - and our lives - more depth, more color, more resonance, and yes, more goosebumps.

There will be an opportunity to visit informally with Bert’s friends and family from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport. A service honoring her life will begin at 6:00 p.m. You are welcome to harmonize with us!

A private inurnment service at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island will honor Bert on a later date.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church (directed to music and worship), or The Quad City Symphony, which both brought joy to Alberta’s soul. You may also contribute to the Alzheimer’s Association, which works tirelessly so that others may hold onto the memories they have created with wonderful people like Bert Medd.

Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be left for the family at www.wheelanpressly.com.
