Edith E Edner, 99 ½, of Rock Island, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Silver Cross of Friendship Manor in Rock Island.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Services will be held at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Moline and inturnment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery both at a later date in the spring. Memorials may be made to King’s Harvest Pet Rescue or a women’s homeless shelter.

Edith was born December 23, 1922, in Cainsdorf, Zwickau, East Germany, the daughter of Emil and Johanne (Peshmann) Kober. During WW1 she was employed in Berlin as a Decoder. She married Kenneth L. Edner in June of 1946, in Munich, Germany. He preceded her in death in 2001. After coming to the United States, Edie worked at Mccabes Department Store children’s department and subsequently, Modern Woodmen of America in the data processing department retiring in 1988. Mother enjoyed all things beautiful and stimulating, flowers gardening, playing piano, Politics. She especially loved the Chicago Cubs. As an immigrant, she wanted to learn everything about American culture and history. Her positive attitude and mental strength enabled her to overcome many challenges in life. The devastating realities of the War, contracting polio and the death of her beloved brother in 1949. My mother was kind and good to me all my life. At my lowest moments, she gave me strength. RIP mom.

Survivors include her daughter, Edie Holmstrom; her grandson Erik (Erin); great grandson Aiden; son in law, Les Holmstrom; nephews John and Al Witkowski, William Edner; nieces, Cindy, Susie, Linda. Her German friends Lolly Kile and Hildegard Fahrenkrug, the last remaining of the German in Kaffee Klatsch group. She is also remembered by her dear friend Lorie Ockelman and dearest friends Cheri and Dick Norris.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her brother and infant sister, the Germans Elsa, Katie, Alma, Lisa, and Wilma.
