Dr. Charles G. Pogue (1941-2022)

Charles G. Pogue MD, 80, East Moline, passed away with his family at his side, on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport after a courageous battle with cancer. Dr. Pogue was a perfect patient. Funeral services are 10 AM Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Burial will follow at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Charles Glen Pogue was born November 7, 1941 in Monmouth, Illinois. His parents were Eugene McElroy “Mac” and Lillian (Stone) Pogue. He attended schools at Media, Illinois and Antelope Township in North Dakota. He graduated from Media High School in 1957 at the age of 15. He graduated from Monmouth College in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts degree having majored in physics and math. He attended graduate school at the University of Missouri, Columbia, receiving his Masters degree in physics and completed qualifying coursework and exams for the PH.D. Program in Physics. At that point he switched fields and went to Medical School at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He received training in Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois Medical Center, Wayne County Hospital, Eloise, Michigan. In 1972 he was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

He practiced Internal Medicine in Albert Lea, Minnesota, Silvis and East Moline, Illinois from 1972 until 2014. After that he practiced at Genesis Convenient Care until 2018. He was a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine, American Medical Association. Illinois Medical Society and Rock Island County Medical Society as well as being on the staff of Trinity Medical Center and Genesis Health System.

He married Virginia Ferrell in Palatine, Illinois in 1965. They later divorced. He married Toni Lenc in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1986 who was a life-long source of strength, love and support. He was a life-long Chicago White Sox, Bears and Fighting Illini fan, but was happy when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016. He enjoyed golf, reading, most sports, playing the piano and his family's activities. He retained an interest in farming (on which he grew up) and was fortunate to have wonderful tenants on those properties.

He was thankful for the friends made among the patients, doctors, nurses, hospital and clinic workers encountered over the years. He considered it a privilege to have been a physician.

He is survived by his wife Toni Pogue; daughters, Catherine Krogman, Moline, Christine Pogue, Davenport; step-children, Katherine Lenc, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Craig Lenc, East Moline; sister, Nancy Pogue, Peoria, Illinois; granddaughters, Laken and Allissa Krogman, Moline, Illinois; Abbey Paillette, Colorado Springs, grandson, Sky Pogue, Ames, Iowa and sister-in-law, Teri Pogue and her family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister and brother Robert Pogue MD.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Genesis-East and Dr. Michael Porubcin for the exceptional care shown to Charles and the Pogue family.
