Roger Harold Heyn, 81, of Davenport, Iowa formerly of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, passed away on June 29, 2022.
The youngest of five siblings, Roger was born on June 5, 1941 to Harold and Emma (Range) Heyn. He attended Sheboygan public schools and graduated from Central High School class of 1960. After high school Roger served in the Navy for four years. He trained to be an Electronic Countermeasures Technician and was an important part of an air squadron assigned to several aircraft carriers in Southeast Asia during the war in Vietnam. Upon returning to Wisconsin, Roger attended the University of Wisconsin earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering. In 1971 he married Sharon Benke and together they raised two children, Andrew of Elmore, Vermont and Laura of Chicago, Illinois.

Roger worked for 33 years as an engineer for Bechtel and Exelon before retiring in 2006. He worked on the design and modification of several nuclear power plants, most recently at the Quad Cities station in Cordova, Illinois. His love of hot rods and racing filled his free time. He enjoyed traveling to car shows across the nation and cruising in his orange 1928 bucket T roadster brought a smile to his face. After he retired, Roger and Sharon traveled to the far corners of the world, China to Norway, Canada to Panama. He cherished time together with family and friends.

Roger was a wonderful husband and father; always willing to help and teach his family when needed, from fixing a leaky engine to replacing a garage door or building an addition on his son’s bakery. His generosity and calm nature will be missed more than he could ever know.

When his grandson Phineas was born, Roger bought a lake house in Elmore, Vermont. This beauty spot was filled with many happy memories and family fun. But the best time was when Andrew and his wife Blair Marvin, Laura and her husband Matt Gallagher walked through the door. Then the cabin was filled with laughter and great food and that amazing boy named Phineas Marvin.

Roger is survived by his sister, Lois Hopp of Mountain View, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Willis Heyn, and sisters Carol Schuessler and Marlene Vogt.

Roger was cremated and his ashes will be taken to Vermont. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to www.ElmoreCommunityTrust.org.
