James W. Truitt

June 17, 2022

A private service and burial was previously held at the Runge Mortuary, Davenport, IA for James W. Truitt, 75, who passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022, the son of A.O. and Betty (Clemmens) Truitt.

He was employed by Alcoa (Arconic), Davenport Works, for 54 years until his retirement in 2021. For the first 20 years he was a crane operator with zero injuries, before moving to maintenance truck repair until his retirement.

With continuing college education, he became a certified welder in many categories.

Because of his extreme knowledge of mechanics and his seniority, he was selected to meet the then President of the United States during the first ever Alcoa presidential visit.

He was the first mechanic to be allowed to service new million dollar equipment.

In his spare time, he was an award winner in photography, with several photos being published. His passion was in collecting and restoring collectible specialty cars. He hand built an award winning street rod, with several trophies to his credit.

For his whole life, he had and enjoyed many dogs, including his champion Afghan Hounds and Portuguese Podengo Pequenos.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife of 40 years, Sandra, his children (previous marriage) Christopher Truitt and Susan Roggendorf, grandchildren Andrew and Kaitlyn Truitt, and Seneca Bulington, sister Linda (Larry) Gerner, nieces and nephews, and very best friend Robert McKenna.

Memorials may be made to an organization of your choice. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
