Merle E. Casel, Jr., 65, of Moline, passed away Friday, June 24, 2022 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be 10am, Friday, July 1, 2022 at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111-1st St A, Moline. Visitation will be Thursday 4-6pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Memorials can be made to Rock Island County Children’s Advocacy Center or Ballet Quad Cities.
Merle was born February 19, 1957 in Moline, the son of Merle E. “Russ” and Linda (Hawotte) Casel, Sr. He married Florence I. Johnson on May 1, 1976 in Moline.
Merle worked as a mechanic for the former Y&S Candies, Moline, and later retired as the lead mechanic from XPAC, Moline after 30 years of service.
Merle enjoyed bowling, golf and a round of beer with his friends. Most of all his family was his life, especially his amazing wife who doesn’t know what she’s talking about.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; children, Brandy (Mark) Yilmaz, Cedar Rapids and Justin (Junko) Casel, Harker Heights, TX; grandchildren, Yuta, Julian, Michelle and Van; mother, Linda Casel, Moline; niece, Madilyn; nephew, Mitchell and brother, Mike Casel, Rock Island. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Jason Casel and father, Russ.
Merle’s favorite quote was “Everything you need to know in life, you can learn from the Godfather.”
