James William Vretis

February 1, 1984-June 18, 2022

EAST MOLINE-Funeral services for James William Vretis, 38, of East Moline, IL, will be 10 am Saturday at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island, IL. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moline, IL. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Trisagion (Prayer) service will be held at 6:30pm. Mr. Vretis passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer, Saturday, June 18, 2022, at home.

James was born February 1, 1984, in Davenport, IA, the son of Frank and Deborah (Yeoman) Vretis. He was a graduate of Moline High School Class of 2002. He was an outstanding cook and had worked at several local restaurants in the Quad City area. He loved sports and was a Chicago Bulls, Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks fan. Above all, James was a loving son, brother, and devoted father to his children.

Survivors include his parents, Frank Vretis, East Moline, and Deborah Vretis, Erie, IL; children, Oliver Vretis, Maclin Vretis, Gabriel White, and D'Antre Shipp all of East Moline; brothers, Nicholas Vretis, East Moline, and Thomas (Ashley Morgan) Vretis, Rock Island; grandmother, Bernice "Bonnie" Yeoman, Harpers Ferry, IA; nephew, Ezra Vretis; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, George (Grace) Vretis, and Theodore "Bill" Yeoman.

Memorials may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island, or Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline.
