Vicente “Vic” Dayao Esquivel Jr., 87, of Bettendorf—a beloved husband, father, tito and lolo—passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at UnityPoint Trinity-Bettendorf. A
Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, at Our Lady of Lourdes CatholicChurch in Bettendorf, with a funeral mass to follow at 1 p.m.
Vic was born in San Antonio, Nueva Ecija in the Philippines on June 8, 1934, to parents Vicente and Flordeliza Esquivel Sr. The oldest of five siblings, he grew up in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija and attended college at the Mapúa Institute of Technology in Manila. Vic married Natividad “Naty” Yambao on September 9, 1962 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in the city of Pasay. Vic and his family immigrated to the United States in the 1970s, making their home in Bettendorf. He worked as a mechanical/industrial engineer for John Deere, McDonnell Douglas and the Rock Island Arsenal prior to retiring after 40 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and the Filipino-American Association of the
Quad Cities.
Vic loved cooking for his family, especially daing made with fish he caught from the
Mississippi River. He traveled the world with his wife Naty, visiting countries including
Panama, Jamaica and Russia with a camera in tow to document their adventures. Even as his health declined in later years, Vic expertly tended to his backyard garden, where he grew vegetables like okra, eggplant, tomatoes and peppers. Always there for family, Vic called his sister Cora every day and attended dozens of his grandchildren’s musical performances. He deeply valued education, and encouraged excellence in his
daughters and all who looked up to him.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife of nearly 60 years, Naty; daughters
Vicky (Barry) Reed, Moline; Tess Esquivel, Chicago; Lourdes “Lu” (Romulus) Rosario,
Davenport; Carol (David) Odekirk, Waterloo; sister Cora (Roger) Tan, Fort Myers,
Florida; grandchildren Taylor, Isabella, Spencer, Samuel and Logan; and numerous
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Romeo
Esquivel, Danilo Esquivel and Zenaida Morales.
