Irving H. Olson, 87, of Blue Grass, IA, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Genesis East Medical Center. Per his wishes, cremation will take place with a Graveside service to be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 3, at the Pine Hill Cemetery Chapel. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Online condolences may be expressed at www.weertsfh.com

Irving Howard Olson was born January 11, 1935, in Jewell, IA, to Burton and Thelma Olson. The family later moved to Radcliffe, IA, where Irving attended school and graduated from High School. He received an AA Degree in pre-engineering from Ellsworth Junior College, Iowa Falls, IA, and a BS Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Iowa. Irving proudly served in the U.S Army, spending 18 months in Neu Ulm, Germany. He married Phyllis Roenfeldt on October 28, 1967. Irving worked as an equipment operator in road construction before and during semester breaks while attending college. After graduating from the University of Iowa, he worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a civil engineer until his retirement in January of 1994. He later worked for H & R Block in Quality Control during tax seasons from 1995 through 2004.

Irving’s hobbies included golfing, woodworking and maintaining his large yard and garden. He truly enjoyed time spent outdoors. Irving was a member of the NARFE.

Survivors include his sister, Jeraldine (Tom) Keyes of Mesa, AZ; brother-in-law, John (Kathy) Roenfeldt; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Phyllis; brothers William and Bruce; sister Joyce Kooker, and foster sister, Arlene Lawson.

Irving wanted to give special thanks to his guardian angels and longtime neighbors, David and Debra Eagan, for their care during the past two months.
