Ava Louise Morrow, 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 23, 2022 at Country Manor Memory Care in Davenport, Iowa.
Rafferty Funeral Home, Moline, IL is assisting with arrangements. No service is planned. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Ava was born Louise Ava Morrow on July 4, 1945 in the Staten Island Hospital on Staten Island, NY. Her parents, now deceased, were Lowell and Geraldine (Bell) Morrow.
As a child, Ava, her parents and sisters, Helen and Terissa, traveled across the country for her father’s Navy assignments, eventually settling in the Wishkah Valley area of Washington State. Ava had fond memories of her horse, Blackie, her companion until the family moved to the Iowa Quad Cities.
After graduating from West High School, Davenport, Iowa, Ava entered a pageant for scholarship money and was crowned Miss Scott County, 1965. She spent time at the University of Iowa and Eastern Iowa Community College before deciding to work full-time. She had a 29-year career in the electrical utility industry at Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Company, Davenport, and Commonwealth Edison Company, Lombard, IL.
Ava enjoyed travel and downhill skiing with friends, treasured her books and reading, and loved her Shetland Sheepdogs. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, East Moline.
The family thanks Stephanie and Jon Delleman, Dr. Jean Wardlow, Denise and Chris Welch and their staff at In Home Care Connection, Country Manor Memory Care, and Compassus Hospice for their care and kindness during Ava’s extended illness.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews and was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Helen Sherie Morrow.
