March 31, 1936-May 14, 2022

Lester W. Oberbreckling, 86, of Eldridge passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22nd at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. Noon until the time of service. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be directed to Our Savior Presbyterian Church, LeClaire.

Lester was born March 31, 1936 in Dyersville, Iowa to Otto and Alvina (Timmber) Oberbreckling. Following high school, he joined the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge, he worked for Phillip Morris in Charlotte, North Carolina before returning to Iowa where he worked for Goss Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids. Prior to his retirement, he worked for Advanced Machining in Cedar Rapids. He was creative and excelled at learning his skill with precision. On December 18, 2010, Lester married Joanne (Mess) Fahrenkrog at Our Savior Presbyterian Church, where they were both active members of the congregation. In his younger years, he enjoyed bicycling and was proud of his accomplishment of bicycling across Iowa. He enjoyed gardening, exhibiting antique tractors, playing cards, and ballroom dancing. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne Oberbreckling; daughters, Tamie (Tommy Bruner) Oberbreckling-Unash and Teresa (Ed Van Amburg) Oberbreckling-Hyde; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; sisters, Madonna Gustavesen, Marge (Rich) Wolfe; brothers, Tom (Lana) Oberbreckling, Herb (Kate) Oberbreckling, Daniel Oberbreckling, Charles Oberbreckling, Luke (Mary) Oberbreckling, Randy Oberbreckling; sister-in-law, Jean Oberbreckling; step-daughters, Eileen (Todd Friederichs) Gevers, Lisa (Chris Rymars) Holst, Sheryl (Jeff) Geerts; four step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Jerome, Art, Ron, Mark and Delrose.
