Like the lime that flavored her favorite libation, E. Jean “Scotty” Dillon enhanced the lives of those who were lucky enough to meet her. Scotty filled the 103 year dash of life with laughter, service and love.
A Celebration of Life will be 2 pm Sunday, June 5, 2022 at the Svithoid Club, 1522 – 6th Avenue Moline. Private burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Historical Society.
Entering the world on January 18, 1919 Scotty was greeted by her father, Tennyson C. Scott and mother, Eunice (Stephens) Scott of Rock Island. Also greeting the new arrival were siblings, Leonard, Guinevere, Dorothy and Ruth Scott. All of her family preceded her in death including her husband, Bob “Marshall” Dillon whom she married on July 16, 1941.
Bob and Jean were able to enjoy their life together until his death in 1998. One of their favorite activities was a yearly trip to the Florida Keys.
If wealth was measured by friendship then Scotty was a multi-millionaire. Noted for her joke and story telling she left the attendees at many a social event in tears of laughter. She was a well liked and respected employee for almost thirty years at Davenport’s Peterson Paper Company. In her retirement, she gave of herself by volunteering at the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the Rock Island County Historical Society and by delivering meals on wheels with her sidekick, Dee Layer. Both of these activities she did into her nineties.
Scotty is survived by her nephews, Jerry (Ann) Scott, Austin, TX, Steve (Betty) Clark, Algonquin, IL, Dave Schuermer, Kentucky and Erick (Karen) Schuermer, Spokane, WA; cousins, Barb Thiede, Davenport, Scott (Jennifer) Stephens, Rock Island, Ruth (Tim) Denjonghe, Garrison, MN and Jack (Luchi) Stephens, San Diego, CA and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Missing Scotty’s friendship will be a posse of great friends including Dee Layer and Connie Mohr-Wright, Moline and Rose Neppl, Peoria, IL. Also left to toast her memory, are numerous members of Moline’s Svithiod Club and the fifth Saturday of the month stops. Scotty was also blessed to have a special loving friend and caretaker, Chris Sanchez, Moline.
No matter what time you stopped by, you were always “Just in time for cocktail hour”. Her jokes and comedic timing were beyond impressive, even just last week. While being assessed by the hospice nurse, she quipped, “Who are you, the mortician?”
On May 10, 2022 Scotty bid us goodbye, with her well known saying “I’m glad you go to see me” ringing in our ears. To those who loved her we were truly glad we got to see her.
