MOLINE - James Peter Doering 88 , died April 28, 2022, at The Willows at Hamburg, Lexington, KY.
Services will be 11Am, Thursday, May 12, at Sacred Heart Church, Moline. Burial is in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 4-6PM, the evening prior at Rafferty funeral home with a rosary recited at 3:30PM. Memorials may be made to Alleman High School, Sacred Heart Church, Seton Schools or St. Malachy’s School, Geneseo.
Jim was born January 11, 1934, in Geneseo, the son of Dr. Peter J. and Marjorie D. “Sandy” Sanquist Doering. He married Louise J. King, Moline, on October 7, 1961, in Moline. She preceded him in death on March 27, 2017.
He graduated from Geneseo Township High School. He earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Agricultural and Mechanical Engineering, and obtained a Masters Degree in Agricultural Engineering at the University of Wisconsin Madison. He was a Registered Professional Engineer, State of Illinois. He was a member of Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity.
Jim was employed and retired from John Deere Harvester Works, John Deere Foundry and was awarded three patents while there. He was with the R.I. Arsenal until his second retirement in 1996. He was active in several professional societies. He was a member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers and served as Chairman of the Quad City Section. He served as committeeman for the Society of Automotive Engineers and was a member of the American Foundrymen’s Society.
Jim and his wife served as Development Couple for the Christian Family Movement in the Peoria Diocese. They devoted many years to the Birthright and the FISH organizations. Jim served on the founding board of Christ the King Catholic Church in Moline. He was on the Adult Education Committee of Sacred Heart Church in Moline. He was a life member of the Wisconsin Alumni Association and served as an officer of the area club.
Jim was proud to celebrate the efforts and successes of his children and grandchildren. He even guided his daughter (by phone) to the perfect wedding store in Kentucky. He served as a Boy Scout Webelos leader. He developed computer applications in managing his family (1865) farm. He was an avid reader, and liked many forms of art, drama and music (especially jazz).
Survivors include his son, Bob Doering of Beckley, WV; his daughter, Kay (Tucker) Ballinger of Lexington KY; four grandchildren, Zarek and Cosette Doering, Bella and Benton Ballinger. Also surviving are his sister, Pat (Gary) Boruff, Venice FL, several nieces and nephews, and the family of Aimee and Jim Toney, Phoenix, AZ.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Bill, brother-in-law, Jerry Smet, and his sister-in-law, Katy Smet.
