Obituary for Doris A Sullivan
Doris A. Sullivan, 88, of Sun City Center, FL, formerly of Davenport, Iowa passed away peacefully at Cypress Creek Assisted Living Facility on December 1. Doris was born in Galena, IL in 1933 to Pearl and Frances Gray. She was the youngest of 6 kids-Bill, Vivian, Helen, Mary and Pat. She proudly graduated from Davenport High as the first Gray to complete high school. She was united in marriage to Chester L. Sullivan in June of 1952 at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Doris and Chet met while roller skating at "The Prom" in Davenport.
Doris worked at Petersen Harden Von Maur, gift wrapping; Dolch’s Bakery, as a cake decorator; Ben Franklin, East Village Bakery. Retiring after 15 years at Isabel Bloom in the East Village.
Doris’s hobbies included crocheting, everyone in the family has a least one if not two fabulous blankets; playing cards, 500 then changed to Uno with her girlfriends (you know who you are) from high school; going to lunch with her high school friends but end up spending the whole afternoon chatting at Riefe’s Restaurant. Doris and Chet traveled around the U.S. in their 5th wheeler and headed to Texas for the winter months. Doris enjoyed going out to eat, Olive Garden being her favorite place and drinking margaritas. Doris enjoyed listening to music and singing along with John Denver and Neil Diamond, especially Sweet Caroline.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester L. Sullivan.
Those left to honor her memory are her four children; Rick (Linda) Sullivan of Valrico, FL, Cyndi (Jack) Rudsell of Ruskin, FL, Karen (Bill) McConnell of Sarasota, FL, Terry (Mark) Redeker of Bettendorf, IA; along with 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. A grave side memorial will be scheduled in the future at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, where Doris will be laid to rest alongside her husband.
