Gayle Elizabeth Broderick passed away Thursday, November 25, at the Fountains in Bettendorf. She was born November 6, 1935 in Fargo, ND to Patrick and Lucille (Mayer) Hewitt. Gayle graduated from Alleman High School in 1953. She married Jack F. Broderick on September 12, 1959 at St. Anne’s Church, East Moline, IL. They were happily and blessedly married for 55 years.

Gayle was a member of St. John Vianney Church and St. Anthony’s Circle. She volunteered in the Listen To Me Read program and assisted the art teacher at Armstrong School. Gayle was a member of Mercy Hospital Auxiliary for many years and served on the board as well as being treasurer of the gift shop and chairman of the crafts committee. She served on the board of directors of Broadway Theatre League for 25 years. She worked for 20 years as a commercial artist. She attained the level of silver life master in duplicate bridge and was a big sports fan, rooting for the Hawkeyes, Bulls, Bears and Cubs.

Gayle and Jack shared a love of travel and were fortunate enough to visit six continents and many countries as well as 47 states. They spent winters in Port Aransas, TX, for 20 years.

She is survived by her brothers, Terry L. (Trudi) Hewitt, Sahuarita, AZ, James A. Hewitt, Phoenix, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Judy Hewitt.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 3 at St. John Vianney Church in Bettendorf. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., also at the church.
