James Edward Daxon (1947-2021)

James Edward Daxon, 74, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away peacefully at UnityPoint Health Finley Hospital on October 26, 2021.

A private family burial with military honors will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. A celebration of life for family and friends will be on November 15, 2021, at the American Legion Post No. 26, 702 W 35th St., Davenport, IA from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory Dubuque, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

James was born on January 29, 1947, in Rock Island, Illinois to Mary Rita (Dugan) and Bernard Daxon. He graduated from Alleman Catholic High School in 1965. He married Nancy Estes in February of 1967, with whom he shares a daughter, and later Sandy Lister in January of 1976. He worked as a car salesman for 40+ years in the Quad city area, and co-owned Fountainhead Tack.

Jim is United States Army veteran serving with the 101st Airborne Division. He served from 1966 to 1968. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal along with Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal and received his parachute badge.

James was a member of the chevy club, the flying country club, and Silver Spurs Saddle Club. He was a member the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 776 and in his retirement was a part of the Honor Guard.

He enjoyed spending time with his daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, riding horses, and watching NASCAR. He was a proud Bugler for the Honor Guard and was fond of taking his dog to the dog park.

He is survived by his daughter Kristen (Paul) Decker of La Motte, Iowa; his grandchildren Tyler (JoJean), Justin (Katelyn), Austin (Courtney), Nathan, Abbey, Will, and Emma Decker; great-grandchildren Jackson and Hudson; sisters Rita Elliot, Janice (Jim) McCannon, and Kathleen Frauen, as well as nieces and nephews; his beloved dog Shiloh; as well as his first wife Nancy Barnhart, and second wife Sandy Daxon.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Mary Rita Daxon; brothers-in-law Barney Elliot, and Larry Frauen; niece Brenda Elliott-Yordy; and nephew Dale McCannon.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Finley Hospital in Dubuque.
