Lyle Russell Shellabarger, age 91, of Blue Grass, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at home with his son, Tim, by his side. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 8, 2021 at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. A visitation will be held from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 8, 2021, prior to the funeral service. Burial will take place in Blue Grass Cemetery.

Lyle was born on December 23, 1929, the son of Russell and Hulga (Ehrecke) Shellabarger. He graduated from Davenport High School with the Class of 1948. Lyle married Marilyn J. Dimick on February 25, 1951 in Buffalo Friends Church. Marilyn died on December 3, 1997.

Lyle began farming on his family farm in the 1940's, where he milked cows and later raised his family. He most recently farmed alongside his son, Tim, raising crops and livestock. Lyle was a Volunteer Fireman in Blue Grass and a former Trustee for Buffalo Township for many years. He also enjoyed woodworking, taking road trips with his family and traveling with friends.

Lyle will be dearly missed by two children, Tim (Stacy) Shellabarger of Blue Grass and Barb (Chip) Turrittin of St. Peter, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Rachel (Thorlindur Thorolfsson) Shellabarger of Santa Clara, California and Eli Shellabarger of Newport News, Virginia; six great grandchildren, Andinia, Viviana, Eleanora, Helena and Olin Turrittin and Thorolfur Shellabarger; and close family friends, David and Allison Neumeister.

Lyle was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; two grandsons, Jesse and Cole Turrittin; and two sisters, Marguerite Lahl and Evelyn Petersen.
