Gregory Alan Stoffer, 66, of Davenport, died peacefully on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer and was surrounded by his family and friends in his last moments.

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at Noon on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be from 10am until time of service at the funeral home. The rite of cremation will be accorded following services. Memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Hospital for cancer research.

Greg was born November 24, 1954 in Davenport, a son of Robert and Lennice (Elvidge) Stoffer. He graduated from Central High School in 1973 and married Denise Gilmore, the love of his life, on September 6, 1980. They welcomed two daughters, Lindsay and Chelsea, who were adored by him.

He was a devoted husband, son, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. A classic middle brother, Greg was a peacemaker and his easy-going personality created strong, long-lasting friendships. He loved playing team sports as a youngster but was also a very hard worker. He took on early responsibilities with not just one, but several neighborhood paper routes and could fix anything. Greg was always interested in auto mechanics and enjoyed rebuilding and maintaining all types of vehicles. He was blessed with an extra-large compassionate heart – as evidenced by welcoming friends and relatives struggling with health or personal issues into his home.

Greg was a lifelong Hawkeyes, Bears and Cubs fan. He also enjoyed working on his 1978 Cadillac El Dorado. On Sunday mornings you could find him engrossed in the Sunday edition of the QC Times.

Greg had been employed by Walmart transportation from February of 1991 until his retirement in April of 2020. During his loyal years of employment, he accumulated 2,705,674 accident-free miles, as well as receiving countless awards and achievements and was respected by many.

We are so very blessed that Greg got to spend his last week of life in the Florida sunshine, feet in the sand, and pina colada in hand, beachside, surrounded by friends and family who he loved.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife Denise; daughters Lindsay (Clayton) Lee, Moline, Chelsea Thompson, Davenport; grandchildren Mariah, Andynn, Miles, Grayson, Elynn; brother Joseph Stoffer, Nashville; sister Carol (Steve) Hintgen, Orlando, FL; sisters-in-law Jaye Stoffer, Bettendorf, Roxanne Isham, Davenport, Kim (Tom) Campbell, Davenport; brothers-in-law Rob (Cindy) Gilmore, Dixon, IA, Mark (Karen) Gilmore; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jim.
