LaVon J. Carter, 77, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Clarissa C Cook Hospice House after a short battle with cancer. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021 at 4pm at Cunnick Collin’s Mortuary Davenport. Visitation will be held from 11am - 1pm on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Cunnick Collins Mortuary. There will be a funeral service held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 1pm at the Jandt-Frederickson Woodruff Chapel, LaCrosse, Wisconsin; visitation will be from 11am – 1pm before the service. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Memorial’s in LaVon’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

LaVon was born on February 1, 1944 to Richard and Clara Krueger in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. She was united in marriage to Wayne L. Carter on October 1, 1966; he passed away on January 27, 1995. LaVon worked as the assistant manager for 30 years at Sear Roebuck Co. before retiring in 1998. Even after retirement, LaVon didn’t really retire, she kept herself busy with caring for her rental properties. She was a member at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Davenport. LaVon was the matriarch of the family and kept everyone in order. Even though she worked full time, LaVon was a true “Susie Homemaker”, making sure everyone was fed, clothed, and taken care of.

Those left to honor her memory are her children Steven Carter, Gerald (Lora) Carter, and LeAnn (Scott) Woodward; grandchildren Mackenzie and Stetson Carter, Vance and Camryn Carter, and Ashley and Austin Woodward; great-grandson Easton Copell; and her brother James (Mary) Krueger. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her sister Carol Teal.
