October 30, 1939-August 3, 2021

BETTENDORF-Myron D. Rice, 81, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Trinity Hospital in Rock Island. A visitation will be held on Monday, August 9, 2021 at 11:00 am with service to follow at 12:00 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bettendorf, IA. Memorials in Myron's name may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Myron was born on October 30, 1939 to Edward and Mathilda Rice in Caledonia, MN. He earned his bachelor's degree from Winona State University. On October 13, 1963, he was united in marriage to Janice Aspelin in Caledonia, MN. They first lived in Minnesota and Wisconsin while starting their family before moving to Iowa where they raised their children. Michelle and David started school in Mason City, IA before moving to Bettendorf, IA in 1977. Myron was with the Social Security Administration for 42 years, retiring as District Manager in Davenport, Iowa in 2003. They were further blessed with two wonderful grandchildren; Matt and Carmen.

Myron was an active member at Redeemer Lutheran Church and a volunteer for delivering as well as board member for the local Meals on Wheels program. When he was not reading, he loved playing bridge with Jan and their friends in several Bridge clubs. He also enjoyed a spirited game of cribbage and watching his beloved Minnesota Vikings. Myron enjoyed camping throughout his life. The family spent many nights camping and exploring. Favorite destinations included the Smokey and Rocky Mountains, and Devils' Lake for Rice Camporees. Myron loved history and took the family to campgrounds near many Civil War sites and Presidential Libraries. Forty-one of the 50 states were visited in Myron's lifetime.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife of 57 years, Janice; children Michelle (Richard) Moulton of Frisco, TX and David (Wendy Wilson) Rice, of West Des Moines; grandchildren Matthew and Carmen Moulton; and siblings Jean Wenig and John (Muriel) Rice. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings: Donald Rice, Richard Rice, Helen Renslo, Norman Rice, and Carol Meyer.
