Shirley M. Hazen, 92, of Rock Island, Illinois, and formerly of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Friendship Manor in Rock Island.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Risen Christ Lutheran Church in Davenport where she was a member for many years. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, Iowa. Face masks will be required and social distancing will be observed. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Friendship Manor in Rock Island or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Shirley was born on April 5, 1929 in Davenport, the daughter of William & Edna (Fagenberg) Frauen. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1946 and attended the University of Iowa for a few years. She was united in marriage to Jack R. Hazen in 1949 in Iowa City, Iowa. He preceded her in death on September 16, 2000.

Shirley had been employed with First Trust and Savings in Davenport, retiring in 1989.

Shirley enjoyed crocheting, sewing, needlepoint, playing cards, singing and playing the piano. She was a member of the choir at Risen Christ Lutheran Church and also at CASI. Her great passion was water-color painting and was very skilled at her craft. She won many awards for her artwork at the Mississippi Valley Fair and the Quad-City Times Plus 60 competition. She also enjoyed watching college basketball, especially the Hawkeyes!

Those left to honor her memory her daughter and son-in-law, Colleen and Gunard Polite of Chicago, Illinois; her son and daughter-in-law, Clark and Deborah Hazen of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Angela (Casey) Polite-Dokey of Des Plaines, Illinois and Gunard Jr. (Blanca) Polite of Kansas City, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, Sahara and Prince of Des Plaines, Illinois, Bennett and Arturo of Kansas City, Missouri; brother-in-law Gary Beck, Rock Island, Illinois; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Darlene and Jerry Hixon, Peoria, Illinois; sister-in-law, Judie Hazen, Davenport, Iowa and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

In addition to her husband, Jack, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister, Marlene Beck.
