Richard "Dick" Karwath

October 26, 1931-April 8, 2021

DAVENPORT-Richard "Dick" Karwath of Davenport, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 8, 2021 surrounded by family. Visitation will be held at Weerts Funeral Home, 3625 Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport, on Saturday, April 17th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A private service for immediate family members will follow at graveside.

"Dick" was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Lois, brother Bob, and wife Alice, the love of his life.

A lifelong Davenport resident, he graduated from Davenport High School, attended Beloit College, and graduated from Northwestern University. In addition to his having served in the U.S. Naval Reserve, Dick was the longstanding President of Karwath Insurance, Inc., from which he retired in his mid-80s. Active community involvement throughout his life included Sigma Chi Fraternity, Blue Lodge, 32 Degree Mason, Lindsay Park Boat Club, Exchange Club, Outing Club, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, and Riefe's Restaurant's "Counter Crew."

Dick enjoyed leisure boating on the Mississippi River and spending time at his beloved cabin on Madeline Island in Lake Superior. He loved to hear about his grandsons as they progressed into their lives. Dick is survived by his two daughters Ann Karwath Friederichs (Lee Friederichs) and her sons Henry (Iowa City), Fritz (Platteville, WI), Ian (Minneapolis, MN) and Lyle (Los Angeles, CA) and Julie Karwath Bollmann (Bradford Bollmann) and her sons Charles (Houston, TX) and Alex (Annapolis, MD).
